The Sanger High School NJROTC unit was founded in 1976 and lead by Captain Nick J. Nicholson USN(ret). It started out with only 17 cadets. There was one class a day, and it was held in the band room. On May 23, 1985, eight of Captain Nicholson's cadets received appointments to the Naval Academy. Sanger High became famous that year. Today Sanger High School NJROTC continues to flourish and carry on the same pride and tradition of years past.
The mission at Sanger High School NJROTC is to empower cadets to continue with education beyond high school, achieve special unit goals, and to learn to become great American citizens. Naval Science is a 100% volunteer high school elective class which provides four naval science courses consisting of subjects such as American history, earth science, leadership and ethics. Cadets compete in 11 different team competitions such as Armed/Unarmed Drill, Color Guard, Academic, Marksmanship, Athletics, and Orienteering. Moreover, the cadets learn the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment. Our unit is made up of over 100 cadets from local area ranging from 14 to 18 years old.
