Dear Parents of Sanger High School Athletes,
I want to take a moment to update you on athletics at Sanger High School. I am excited to announce that we are competing in sports that are permitted in Fresno County while we are in the purple tier. We held our first cross country meet this past Thursday vs. Clovis North. This was our first athletic competition of any type since March 2020. Our meet, along with a meet at Buchanan, was the first in the Central Section. It was exciting to watch our student-athletes compete! Our cross country team has been training since June and they performed at a very high level. I am deeply impressed with the perseverance and work ethic of our student-athletes and coaches.
Our cross country team will continue to compete for the next month and a half against Tri-River Athletic Conference (TRAC) and County Metro Athletic Conference (CMAC) schools. The Sanger High School swim team will also begin competition next week when we host Reedley High School and then compete in a series of dual meets versus CMAC schools. Our aquatics athletes have also been training since June and it will be great to see them display their talents in the pool. They are excited to compete. It is a testament to the determination and positive attitude of our student-athletes and coaches that they are prepared for competition.
Sanger High School's tennis and golf teams are also allowed to compete in the purple tier and will begin their matches in March. We are hopeful that our county will make progress through the tier system so that we are able to resume full athletic participation and competition in all of our sports. We are inspired by the hundreds of student-athletes in many sports who come to campus every day to participate in outdoor athletic workouts that follow health protocols including mask wearing, temperature checks, daily self-screening, and social distancing.
I am grateful to our parents, community, and district and school administration for their support of Sanger High School athletics. Our district has continually found ways to keep athletics moving through the pandemic. This commitment to our student-athletes is a significant reason why our teams were ready to compete the moment we were permitted by the Fresno County Department of Public Health.
We will be communicating with parents as more information from the CDPH becomes more available. Please contact the athletic office 524-7208 if you have any questions.
